About the Author

Carla Ward is an Australian writer of speculative fiction interested in how people think, adapt, and justify their choices within the systems they inherit.

Her work explores imagined worlds shaped by control, scarcity, and ideology, with a particular focus on the quiet psychological shifts that happen when rules harden and conformity is rewarded. Rather than grand heroes or villains, she is drawn to ordinary people navigating impossible decisions, fractured loyalties – and the cost of survival inside systems that claim to know what is best.

Carla’s interest in speculative fiction is closely tied to her professional background in mental health, where she has spent years listening to how people make sense of power, responsibility, and change. These observations inform her writing, not as theory, but as texture — shaping characters who feel recognisably human even in unfamiliar futures.

She is currently working on Seeds of Division, a speculative fiction series exploring food, control, and the stories societies tell themselves to endure. The first book is in development.
